This property actually consists of two yards. The original yard borders a field, while the other is located near a family cemetery. I have three overwintered hives and a nuc I purchased this year. The three overwintered hives were all swarm catches. The nuc was very prolific, and I split it several times to create more nucs. This yard produced a lot of delicious honey this year, compared to very little last year.
The original yard produced minimal honey this year, with only one hive yielding any. One hive was extremely aggressive, so I split it into two hives and removed the queen. I requeened with a Golden West queen, but that hive ultimately died. The remaining hives are overwintered, splits, swarm catches, and Golden West splits.
